Focus on Macquarie University in China
Set up in year 1964, Macquarie University is a university in Australia that never lacks creativity. Also, it enjoys high reputation both in Australia and abroad for its quality teaching and researching. According to market research about the salary of graduates, its achievements and the employment condition of graduates, Macquarie University is among Australia’s best universities.
Macquarie University has three departments. They are: business school, school of human and social sciences, and school of technology. Its main majors are: economics, finance, administration, education, linguistics, psychology, law, sociology, cultural media, laser study, environmental and life science, and computer science. Particularly, its major of accountancy is the first in Australia, and its MBA course is the best in both Australia and Asia. What is more, its major of actuary is among the top 15 in the world.
Macquarie University has been especially famous for its courses in accountancy and business. It provides graduate courses that are related to the career goals of students, including Master of International Business, Master of Commerce in Accounting & Finance, Master of Commerce in Business, Master of Commerce in Marketing, and Master of Commerce in Information System & Technology.
65% of the staff at Macquarie University is having Ph.D. degrees, which is higher than the average level among universities in Australia. Its business school, MGSM (Macquarie Graduate School of Management) has been nominated as the 40 top business schools in the world by British Financial Times. It has about 33,000 students, while the number of foreign students among them is approximately 6,100.
Macquarie University has the biggest program of M.S. in applied finance. The program not only opens in Sydney and Melbourne Australia but also opens in Tokyo, Singapore and Beijing(北京). Also, it is recommended as the excellent course sample by the Asian Development Bank.
Chinese students are interested in the courses at Macquarie. One of the programs Chinese students are mostly interested in is the Accounting Master, special track CPA. It is the biggest accounting master program in Australia. Also, the Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting is attracting students from Australia and students from over 100 countries, including China.
There are a lot of students who finish curricula of 1 or 2 semesters as exchange students. Macquarie has many cooperation programs with schools in other countries. Now, it has over 250 cooperators all over the world. Renmin University of China(中国人民大学) has sent 11 of its excellent masters to Macquarie in year 2012. Also, it has cooperated with Central University of Finance and Economics(中央财经大学) in student exchange programs, professor exchange visit programs, and research. They will cooperate in both undergraduate and graduate education, especially Ph.D. education. Asia Australia Business College of Liaoning University(辽宁大学) has been cooperating with Macquarie in graduate education. Nanjing Normal University(南京师范大学) has been cooperating with Macquarie in Master of Economics programs since September, 2007. In 2011, John Simons, the principal of Macquarie’s School of Humanities, visited Southwest University of Political Science and Law(西南政法大学), and reached agreement in cooperation in undergraduate education. Also, in 2012, Bruce Dowton, principal of Macquarie, visited Tsingha University(清华大学) in November, and discussed with Tsinghua’s officials about further cooperation in finance, news, and earth science.
Also, there is another event about Macquarie that needs to be mentioned. It has reached agreement with China Unionpay(中国银联), and Chinese students can use the cards of Unionpay to pay the tuition, and their daily consumptions. This gives Chinese students great convenience, and will increase Chinese students’ willingness to go to Macquarie.
